• Happy Birthday Megan! She is three today and so excited. She keeps walking around saying, "Happy birthday to ME!" She opened her presents, most of which had a Winnie the Pooh bear theme (her favorite!). After opening each one, she would get so involved in looking it over and playing with it, that she would completely forget about the other packages and her sister Becca would impatiently take one and urge her to open.

  
  

  Soon the living room floor was covered with unwrapped treasures and both girls sat among them playing happily. As I left for work, I could hear Megan pushing the buttons on the Pooh Bear book of colors that her Aunt Beth sent. There is a little panel of buttons you can push for each color and Pooh says something like "True blue is my favorite color". Inside the books you can lift flaps as well, so it was a big hit.

  
  

  I had to run out and get more diapers this morning. We were down to just one and Gene had forgotten to tell me. And since his car is not working, I have to take care of all those things. I found myself getting angry and then realized he could do nothing about the car being stuck in San Diego.

  
  

  Then I rushed to the bank, waited for it to open at 9am and put in a deposit so the check I wrote for the diapers would not be bad. It felt like such a hectic morning, but I ended up only 30 minutes late to work. I will make it up with a short lunch.

  
  

  Unemployment is at the highest rate in 9 years. In two weeks I join their ranks. Everywhere I look I hear about people being laid off. I think this is the first time in my life that the economy has effected me so personally. Now is the time we find out what we are made of. I am glad I will soon be in San Diego among friends.
