  • Home Again

I have been quiet because I was away in Indian for almost two weeks with my mom. She needed to have cataract surgery and she asked me to come out and help her during that time. The week prior, I was working like crazy on the old house, so by the time I got on the plane, I was exhausted.

Luckily I had a day and a half to adjust before her first surgery. The three hour time difference is killer. Her surgery went pretty well but the weather that night was insane! You know those tornadoes that blew through last week and killed like 53 people? Well the tramped right through my mom’s town and I have NEVER been in anything like it. It scared me to death. I would have done better if she had a basement that felt safe to stay in, but all we had was a tiny bathroom with a door that felt far to flimsy with 70 mph winds!

Anyhow, to make a long story short, we ended up fine, but I think I lost a few years off my life. I never want to live in tornado or hurricane zone! And, to continue on the weird weather track, the last few days before I left there was snow and ice, at levels greater than mom has seen since she moved there!

The snow was really pretty and I loved watching it fall. Being a California girl, I don’t see it often, especially falling, so I was like a little kid playing in it and taking pictures.

So much snow you can’t even see the road!

Mom’s second surgery was the 12th. That one didn’t go as well, for some reason they could not deaden the pain. Ugh! But luckily the whole thing only takes about 7 minutes. The vision in the first eye is now doing very well, since they put in new lens that also corrected her vision. She is 20/25 in that eye. However, the second eye was still a bit cloudy on the second day, but that is normal. She is very excited to not be wearing glasses any more.

To continue with weird weather, I got back to San Diego to find a freak rain/ice storm that closed a 22 mile stretch of one of our highways, due to snow and ice and stranded several hundred people! Good thing there isn’t global warming! ;) Mr. Bush said so!

So now back to regular life. It is good to be home. I have to get ready for two Girl Scout events next week and the picking up of cookies to deliver. Whee!

But for now, the girls are enjoying a 4-day weekend for President’s weekend. I came home last night (Valentines) to a nice and clean house and the most delicious dinner that Joe planned and cooked. We had rack of lamb stuffed with a combo of feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and greek olives…oh my gosh it was good. The meat had been marinated as well. It was as better than almost anything I have ever tasted! And he made these thin sliced potatoes with cheese and thyme that was so yummy I had seconds and as a rule, I don’t even LIKE potatoes! It was SO nice and such a fantastic welcome home!

Hope everyone had a good Valentines and enjoys the weekend. And I wish you nice, normal and sane weather! LOL!

  • i hate to tell you this, but that is not much snow.  twice in the last two years we got feet of snow in PA!

  • My mom is having cataract surgery in April.  So, I’ll be getting to live that dream soon enough.  Fortunately, she lives with me so I don’t have to travel!

Glad the tornados by passed the place!  They’re horrible things, aren’t they?  They’re not any less scary if you deal with them all the time, either… anybody who says different is either a liar or an idiot!  I hate tornados.  They scare the holy hell outta me.  And I’ve dealt with them all my life.

  • Actually the tornados did not go right through my town.  We had to seperate warnings that there were conditions that could produce a tornado.  That means that there was rotation within the storm.  No tornados were actually spoted, but there was a possibility.  I am sorry I didn’t make it more clear to you.

You were super helping me out.  I really appreciate it.  I am now driving the car!  My reading is slowly improving.  Take care of yourself and try to get some rest.

    Love and hugs, Mom

  • Yikes either way…I miss now, just not like that!
    What a great welcome home!
